A Little Sunshine, Water and Patience.

136So many moments we can look at that show us patience, insight, comfort. Whether it be the connection to the growth cycle of plants or the changing of the tide, each moment so intricately crafted. All beings have an influence on each other in the weaving web of life.

When we look at the bird drifting in the wind to the salmon spawning in the rivers to the hibernation of animals in cozy dens, we start to see similar characteristics that can better help us understand our humanistic tendencies and need for nurture.

110

Through the changing of the seasons we show continuous change just as the Earth. Winter a time of nurture, care and relaxation. Spring a time of growth, tending to the self, and absorption of light. Summer a time of productivity in growth, creativity and absorption of pure light energy. Fall a time of harvesting, tending to land and self. Only to be repeated year after year so we may grow to be our greatest product.

We can relate ourselves to a plant as we change through the seasons being planted and tended to with nutrient rich water and sunlight, rooting ourselves in a place that we feel comfortable enough to grow, reaching for the sky in our pursuits of growth, showing our beauty to the world. Then coming to winter we slowly expose our bare stems and hide within our comfortable root cells so we may grow tall as the sun begins to shine.

What a wonderful world.

Telegrafbukta

197

Telegrafbukta is a beautiful beach on the island of Tromsø, that offers walking trails, white sand beaches and fire pits. This beach has full views of surrounding mountains and towns, it makes for a great sunrise and sunset spot.

We have now reached the point of the year where the sun rises just barely above the horizon, creating light for just a few hours before the blue light illuminates the sky. As soon as the sun rises just enough the sky lights up with pastel shades of pink and blue. In time it reaches for the snow covered Mountains exposing every crisp detail in bright pinks. The Arctic is quite a special place, and although it is starting to become dark, those moments seeing the sky dance with color make you forget all about it.

Trehørningen

178

An early morning bus ride out to Skulsfjord was so worth the lack of food and sleep. As we stepped off of the bus a caribou pranced on into the road in front of the bus like it was no big deal. Starting the morning off with this goofy suprise made us excited to begin our sunrise venture.

180

The hike was absolutely Incredible with only little bits of snow covering the ground making it great for walking. As we approached the top of the mountain we glanced over to see a couple of caribou grazing along the mountain. Such a magical moment realizing it’s just the two of you and Earths vast creation in the middle of nowhere.

183

Our arrival to the top gifted us with glorious sights of mountainous fjords, fishing villages, and puffy white clouds against the peaceful blue of the morning sky.

184185

A massive inukshuk sits upon the top awaiting your well earned rock to stack making it that much taller. The granite has such a unique color against the blue of the sky, reminding us that beauty lies in all forms, colors and sizes.

186187188

As the sun began to rise above the taller mountains, the puffy white clouds began to soak up rays of pink. The sky tinted to shades of puple and blue creating a spectacular spectrum of color contrast. Our hearts filled with joy as we realized that these were the moments we were going to hold in our minds forever. Being here with eachother, sharing the ability to see, feel and love.

189

Instead of taking the main trail back down to the road, we decided to keep walking along the mountain and scale our way down to the fjord. Looking back now we are some crazy humans, we followed caribou trails down a steep rivene filled with boulders and trees to help guide us downhill. We made it safely and at the end of our journey we were greeted by two golden sea eagles, they glided effortlessly through the sky antagonizing the gulls and crows.

We now had quite a few hours to kill so we walked for a few km to a beach, the first beach we found made of rock. Smooth pebbles and stones of all shapes layered this beach with beautiful color. Continuing our way down the road we came across a small river surrounded by snow that reminded us of home. Sitting and reminiscing on our fun memories fishing and wading through the rivers made us that much more excited to be welcomed home. We decided that waiting three more hours in thecCold wasn’t gonna cut it, so westuck the thumbs out and hitchhiked for our first time. What could have been a very nervewrecking experience brougt us a message of peace and compassion in the world.

Adventures like this fill my heart with so much gratitude, because you learn new things about a place and about yourself. You find connections that link you to the wonder of the world and you continue to chase the sunrises despite the lack of energy. Why? Because there are many moments out there that remain unseen and these moments remind you to breathe, to embrace the essence of your own creative journey, and to ponder the mystery of our vast universe.

Fjellheisen

78

A 7.5 km hike starts on the mainland and works its way up Fløya mountain to Fjellheisen, a beautiful cafe and viewing area of the area surrounding the island of Tromsø. We were lucky enough to start this hike on a beautiful day in the North with clear skies and warm temperatures. Golden trees and fallen leaves covered the area with lively Earth tones. Our way to the top crossed through different types of terrain as we got higher onto the mountain. The Arctic Meadows are so incredibly  lush with moss and blueberry patches. Tiny succulent like plants and pines cover the mountain in hues of red and green, a perfect contrast against the golden leaves and blue sky.

Arriving to the top of Fløya was the first real moment I felt a surge of presence in Norway. The endless flowing water, vast mountain ranges, and Earthly colors grasped me in a warm embrace. As though the world was shaking me and telling me “You have shaped your life to enjoy these unique moments so now I will gift them to you.”

It’s one thing to see a place in pictures and have your dream board filled with destinations, and it is another to take the risk and see it for yourself. The world will always nurture you in love, so as long as you listen to your heart, only good things could come of it right?

135

Northern Norway is a place made of dreams and fantasies. The beautiful characteristics that shape its form hold a special place in my heart.

Store Blåmann

115

A short drive out to Kaldfjord on a blue bird sunny day led us to Store Blåmann for a mountainous hike. The terrain was simply magical in all of its golden hues and blueberry patches. The trail made its way up some artcic meadow like ground and on forward to a giant rock surface. There staring at us was the top of Blåmann.

104

A continous climb led us up rock surfaces that overlooked views of the big blue fjord and towering mountains. As everyone else lingered on a bit i decided to finish the trek strong up to the top in hopes of catching the last bit of sunshine. The sun glaring off of the beautiful rock face called to me. As the hike continued overwhelming fits of joy rushed through my body as the views got more intense and I was the only one who was witnessing the magic that was occuring on this mountain. I gazed in awe as the only cloud in the sky that was covering the sun drifted away just enough for me to sit in the presence of its glory. The wind seemed to be still in this moment, as light encompassed the entire side of the cliff in the meadow I was laying in. I looked down into the massive rivene to see a winding river cascading from a waterfall down the enchanting mountains.

106102157117

The wind cooled my exposed skin yet it felt so warm as she nurtured my being,  cleansing any blocks and build ups she could wrap around. Golden rays of light casted upon the most beautiful scenery I had encountered up to that day.

116103107105

Everyone else finally joined me near the top where they found a giant boulder to protect against the wind. I ran down the mountain as I saw they were starting a fire under our new claimed home. It was actually extremely badass and warm to be in there huddled with the family.

100110

I will never forget the feelings that rushed through me when we were on that mountain. Nothing else mattered but the pure essence of being alive and able. It is so powerful to sit in these moments, they show us our strength. They show us our divine right to life and the beauty we see in the world as a reflection of ourselves.

101

As Jade and I made our way down the mountain galloping and enjoying the last moments of light, we quickly came to realize we were not the only ones on the mountain. Three caribou grazed in the canyon below us completely unaware of our presence. Jade being the hunter that he is got extremely excited and guided us down the mountain toward the beautiful creatures.

114       113

We ran down hill making sure we were in opposite direction of the wind so they were unable to catch our scent. We became extremely ecstatic as we approached and they were still unaware of our gain on them. This had to be one of the most fun moments I’ve had in ahwile because I was laughing and so eager to sneak up on these caribou like we were hunting. Two smaller caribou caught sight of us and started to run away, so I quickly ran and chased trying to get close to them. As Jade caught up he quickly told me to be quiet and look behind me, the giant bull had reminded grazing behind a large rock and was getting ready to move. We stood in silence as the majestic moment played before our eyes. He slowly stepped from behind the rock exposing his large rack and full beard. This animal was so beautiful as its beard swayed in the wind and his large body glided with each prance.

111          109

This was quite the adventure for a day, so many phenomenal moments with Earth and each other. A golden pink sunrise danced through the sky sharing the last moments of light with the tips of the mountainous islands. My heart is full.

Wandering to Find “Home”

It’s when we look into the center of our own being that we find that “home” wasn’t so out of sight after all. Here’s to the wandering souls who have been searching for that feeling only to come up short, and here’s to the one’s who listened to the familiar melodies all along.

Funny how we can be so far from what we know as “home” and yet be so connected to the essence of our being. Feeling more comfortable in your skin than being “home” ever tried to make you feel. I think this whole revelation is what makes humans so interesting; we are constantly reaching out for new spaces, destinations, and people without looking deep within to the desire that is manipulating us. That loneliness you feel because no one understands you… It’s the common independent variable we all share in this whirlwind of human existence. The idea of running away and starting the life you have always dreamed of, or maybe a whole new life you have nothing in common with, sparks an interest within most of us. Creating this glamourized life within our heads of how everything should go, or maybe no plans at all just an image of the land you’d like to walk on, pulls us into its grasp with little effort.

This is because escapism feels more comfortable than confronting the restraints we have put around our own soul. Home was within you all along my dear. It was never in an outside location or a dreamy pair of eyes. It was within the crevasses of your own broken heart. A heart that needed to feel the love you so egotistically ripped away from yourself because something in the world was stronger than your own self-love. You were not born to drown.

You are the roots deep within the sands and layers of Earth we walk upon, you are the rivers pulse and the hawks scream. You are the thorn and the delicate petal. You are the pollen drifting in the wind, a crackling fire and a raindrop freezing. You are the precious moments of creation in between each moment that we call time. You are the winds that carve the Earths rock. When you are reminded of your power and emanate creation, you become in sync with your role upon this planet.

You were never meant to make home out of places or people, you have been a part of the mass layout and creation for longer than you know. You are home. Home is within you. When we harmonize with this feeling we start to expand, and share the insights on how we reach this space within ourselves. We have had the power all along. We have had the greatness all along, it just took some river blow outs and wind storms to remind us of our power. Removing the entire sense of self to BE promotes the passion and ignition of love we were looking for all along. Instead of allowing our deepest desires to manipulate us, we are taking action and making choices to influence the world with our gift of perspective and inception. Creating no barrier between Universe, Earth and Human.

I used to reach for the sense of home so often that I allowed it to affect me to the point where I was angry over being happy at the thought of reaching this “destination”. I didn’t understand why bad things happened in the world, or how to get to where I needed to be because of the urge to blame an outside stimuli. The ugly truth is that no one can really tell you how to feel, what choices to make or anything regarding your personal will because the choice is in your hands. You are the one who fights the battles of thought, no one else.  If you made the decision to listen to an outside source that was a choice, if you end up down a misleading path that was a choice. When we learn to take responsibility, remove the manipulation of the ego and become a part of creation over destruction, we open our lives up to infinite possibilities. There are endless trails, paths and roads that signify a place for your soul to wander compared to placing a form of possession over an illusion of Peace. There is no true happiness in grasping onto external factors, the happiness comes from the feeling of exhilaration or peace in knowing your soul guided you to a point in history that no one else has reached. Simply because it is unique to you. We didn’t allow the independent variable of changing horizons to overwhelm us with the fear of never finding the right kind of peace. Instead we took a leap of faith into the depths of our heart center to come to an understanding that peace starts within. Sunshine comes from within. Darkness comes from within.

We are never separated from the true essence of home within ourselves, this limitation only exists in the mind. Uprooting and manipulations by desire come from the inability to find strength and love within yourself, only reaching out to the materialism and heartbeats that feed a different part of our soul.

There is no reason to punish or fear the part of ourselves that reach out for more constantly; never feeling satisfied and always longing for more. The question to ask ourselves here is more of what? If we want to feel whole we need to remember that everything we think we need lays right within the deepest pits of our being. We came into this world with a bare ass and love. If you ever think you need more take a moment to step out of your shoes. Walk in the shoes of another fellow human and come to terms with the longing they suffer from. We are all secretly reaching out for help because we have been conditioned to believing the truth lays in the outskirts far from where we are right now.

The whole point is that we would stop seeing the world as such a hurtful place if we relished in the feeling of home within ourselves. Creating no boundary between happiness and the self. The only true obstacles we face are those of listening to the heart and making choices that guide us down a path of life and beauty. When we sit in the ambience of our heart we lose the desire to see new places, we then know that our heart will always guide us to the spaces that our guidance and love is aligned with.

The Villmark Center

1242137146

On October 19 Jade and I decided to ride bus 420 out to the Villmark Center for an interview at the infamous dog sledding company. We had a few hours to enjoy the landscape until the interview in the afternoon so we decided to walk down the highway and make our way toward the fjord. Our adventurous spirits led us to a swamp like moss covered marsh land. Within minutes our boots started to absorb water so we decided we might as well keep trekking to keep warm. We made our way back to the highway and found a little stream among some trees to lay out a tarp and keep eachother warm. A relaxing couple of hours passed by, with sounds of tickling water and birds chirping.

143145141

We proceeded toward the dog sledding property to meet with Bente, where she asked us to wait and say hi to the dogs. We walked up just in time for the feeding frenzy. I say frenzy because these dogs were so eager and hyped up for their bowl of mush. High pitched yelps and howls echoed within the surrounding hills. Each dog was so excited to see us walking toward them. We decided we had to pet them all or else it wouldn’t be fair… These were the most loving and goofy dogs, all rushing forward to greet us at the nearest sign of an approach. They all just soaked up the love and begged for more by wimpering and staring into your soul. Out of nowhere a howl emerged from one of the canines, leading to every single dog (mind you there is nearly 100)  joining in on this choir rehearsal. The howls lasted for nearly 5 minutes as we just stared and laughed from joining in on this historical moment.

144A few minutes later we met with Bente; who is one of the most quirky, upbeat, and friendly people we have ever met. She proceeded to show us around the beautiful property, walking through event spaces, lavvos for guests to stay in and the kitchen. The interview went great, what originally was an interview for me turned into one for the both of us when we found out she was looking for a cook as well. We would have been offered the job but one restriction we found was that it can be quite hard for someone from a non EU country to come to Norway for work. You must have special qualifications, and seasonal permits for work.

It was a great experience to head out to the Villmark Center for the day, we learned about the area a bit, met some very kind people and furry friends. These memories of taking a chance and jumping out of our own comfort zones  have led to good laughs and being exposed to the beauty of Norway. Bente even showed us to some new pups they have on the property, we got to play with them for a bit until we left. We hope to head back out for a dog sledding expedition of our own sometime!
